Posted by Marc Menant On December - 14 - 2008

2008-iwcauction.jpgBetween 8 and 14 December 2008, IWC Schaffhausen held an auction at iwc.com for a watch that will never be available again: the Pilot’s Watch UTC Edition Antoine de Saint Exupéry in platinum. The hammer has now come down, and the winning bid was made by a bidder from the Czech Republic. This sumptuous and unique piece went to its new owner for the magnificent price of 46,700 US dollars.

Watch lovers from all over the world made numerous bids for this collectors’ item, which was offered for auction together with a copy of the English edition of the novel “Terre des Hommes” (”Wind, Sand and Stars”), hand-signed by the author. The minimum bid of 39,000 US dollars was outstripped by a substantial margin. The winning bid eventually came from a watch lover from the Czech Republic. The raised funds will be given to the SIPAR organization, which helps promote the education of children in Cambodia.
